A Brief History
Buoyed by the success and mission of www.newhampshirecrosscountry.com, by late Fall 2015, former sprinter Greg Hall, who had taken on a more prominent role with NHCC, wanted to do similar coverage for the track and field seasons. So, in November of that year he started building the New Hampshire Track and Field site with the goal of completion for the 2016 outdoor season. The thought was maybe cover a few meets, feature some non-distance athletes, and create more excitement for the sport. The goals were the same as NHCC. Keep it friendly, keep improving, and keep it free.
The NHTF site exceeded all expectations for the season and gave a platform to improve upon both NH Track and Cross Country, so much so that Runner’s Alley offered a partnership and began “Powering” both sites! The sites and communities have continued to grow, thanks to the athletes, parents, coaches, fans, sponsors, and volunteers. Without everyone’s support, we would not be able to provide all that we do. We have become NH’s websites for High School Cross Country and Track.
Who We Are
Greg Hall – Co-Founder
Greg grew up in NH, competing for Coe-Brown in sprints and jumps under the coaching of Tim and Dave Z. He competed collegiately, before returning to Coe-Brown to coach the indoor and outdoor track seasons. The former state champion and school record holder quickly became engrossed even more in the sport and wanted to do more for the athletes while taking advantage of the technology available to do so. His work with video analysis of athletes spring boarded him to helping NHCC and then creating NHTF.
Greg is considered a “Jack of all Trades” for the sites as he has done every job at least once. He is responsible for all things technology for the sites and currently works more behind the scenes with site maintenance, page creation, meet prep, meet crew management, filming, video editing, livestreams, and commentary. In addition to working and coaching at Coe-Brown, Greg can also be found timing at local meets, and select college meets. He can also occasionally be spotted doing some extreme over distance at local 5 & 10k’s.
Tim Cox – Co-Founder
Tim grew up running in NY before competing on both the cross country and track teams in college at UNC-Wilmington. While in North Carolina, he met his MA native wife Jen and his future co-coach, NH native Brent Tkaczyk.
Brent found his way back to NH and started coaching for Coe-Brown Northwood Academy. Tim followed a couple years later. Together they have built a running program which has generated 23 state championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track while also coaching athletes and teams on the national level. During their early years of coaching, they worked regularly with NH coaching legend Larry Martin. Larry reached out to Tim and Brent to take over the NHCC newsletter as he approached his retirement. The rest is history, as noted above.
Tim wears many hats for the site – editor-in-chief, front-end collaborator, correspondent, interviewer, commentator, social media – just to name a few. Tim currently works and coaches at Coe-Brown for the Cross Country and Outdoor Track and Field seasons, while volunteering his time during indoor. Tim is able to do as much as he does for the sites thanks to his amazing family. Without the support of his wife Jen, and their kids Addison, Aidan, and Broden, the site would not exist.
Davio DeLuca
A Coe-Brown alum, Davio is essentially Mr. Everything involving a camera. He has grown into our lead photographer, camera man for livestreams while also providing commentary and conducting interviews. At times, even more important, he is Greg’s right-hand man when it comes to production set-up, breakdown, and trouble shooting!
Mike Smith
Our Division 3 expert and at times conscience of the sport, Mike is a contributing editor. Not only does he provide previews and recaps of seasons and competitions, but we all benefit from his occasional reflections regarding current topics within our sport. With his gravelly voice, when not generating articles, Mike is one of our voices of NHTF as a commentator. Mike has been the cross country and track and field coach at Mascenic Regional High School forever winning numerous XC state championships.
Jim MacKenzie
A New Hampshire native, “Jimmy Mack” represents the born and bred Granite Stater. A standout runner at both Portsmouth High School and then University of New Hampshire, Jim’s contribution to the websites has been mainly one of the voices providing knowledgeable commentary on our many productions. Never forgetting names, performances, compelling/relatable stories from the many years of participating and watching track and field as well as cross country in NH, Jim is NHTF’s version of Google. He is also one of the most successful middle school coaches in NH History evidenced from his time at Deerfield Community School.
Nate Leveille
Another New Hampshire native and current coach at Exeter High School where he is at the mantle of the Blue Hawk dynasty. An University of New Hampshire Alum, Nate has certainly made a name for himself as a coach of sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers. Although quite younger than Jimmy Mack, Nate certainly holds his own as one of NHTF’s commentators regarding NHTF lore. Nate also serves as one of our D1 contributing editors and has penned many a preview and recap.
